ABOUT ZUM-ZUM
Zum-Zum Museum is an interactive children’s micro-museum targeted to newborn children up to children who are 12 years old. Its main mission as a social enterprise is to present an exploratory and creative learning environment that speaks to heritage phenomena of Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean. As one of the few children’s museums in the region, its focus on Caribbean historical and cultural phenomena helps to build a culturally and creatively confident Caribbean child.
Zum-Zum Wings
In this segment of the Dairy Dairy Milky Magic Day Camp, we’ll design Zum-Zum wings! What are those, you ask? Well, Zum-Zum Museum is named after the nickname for “hummingbird”. The indigenous people of the Caribbean gave that nickname to them.
There are 18 species of hummingbirds in Trinidad and Tobago (most are in Trinidad). The country is often called the Land of the Hummingbird. We’re going to make our own design for a pair of hummingbird wings – the kind that you can tie on to your arms and pretend that you are a hummingbird. Once you choose a shape and cut out a pattern from some old newspaper and use to create a Bristol board wing, it’s another chance to use your imagination! And all we’re using to design and decorate the wings are items that you can find around your home.
What you need to participate:
- Some old newspaper
- Scissors
- Bristol board
- Glue
- Pieces of colourful construction paper, napkins, etc. that you find at home
- Pieces of old Carnival costumes, etc. that you find at home
